A deeper look into 1 John 3:11-24

Sitting in a tiny coffee shop just bursting with conversation, I know that there is something I am to blog about but my mind goes blank. I look over at my husband and ask “What should I blog about”?  and he so simply states. “Explain 1 John 3, explain love”.  I just look at him and am reminded of Gods love for me. I am so thankful for a husband that understands the need for such a powerful message in this world and I am certain that this was God speaking through Alex. I am certain too, that this message is for me as much as you. The bible that I use to study is “The Message” version so please feel free to use your bible to reference and study as well.

Love. I firmly believe that this is not just a “desire” but a NEED. I feel we NEED love as much as the air we breath and the water we drink. I also believe that without proper knowledge the search for “love” can become twisted and distorted. In studying John 3 a bit deeper I could not help but notice with what power it starts out. 1 John 3:1 says this: What a marvelous love the Father has extended to us!  We’re called children of God! That’s who we really are.

Notice it does not say “what a marvelous love we have earned from the Father” but it says EXTENDED to us. The love of God was given FREELY to all of those who love and accept Him. This alone means that all of the love, support and nourishment we need is in Him. We are called “children” of God! We are heirs to the King most high. Not only this, it says “that’s who we REALLY are”.

How many people do you know (maybe you even) who spend their entire lives on quest to find out “who” they are? I believe that when you “plug” into the right source and really come to know and accept Christ that you become much more at peace with your sense of being. You have a seed imparted in you that allows you to learn, grow, heal, and become much more sure of your purpose in this world. More sure of yourself.

Many people go their entire lives not fully understanding or grasping how deep the love of the Father is for us. As a result, we search for these things on earth and from people. The world can never provide anything that we truly need to feed and nourish our spirit. This is a dead-end road that leads to nowhere.

As you continue to read on through 1 John 3 it is driven home the pure importance of “loving each other”.  1 John 3:16-17 says this: This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love. Christ sacrificed His life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears. And you made it disappear. (in other bible versions: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life).

This is so powerful and I am sure a solid reminder for each of us. When we accept and welcome Christ into our lives, He enables us to overcome and replaces the “old” parts if you will, with brand new shiny parts. He changes our hearts! Part of this is replacing greed and selfishness with more of Him and a desire to please Him. We are called out of our old ways and into the new. We are held to a higher set of standards but just as high is the reward. We are called to love others and to BE love.

1 John 3: 18-24 goes on to say: My dear children, let’s not just talk about love, let’s practice real love. This is the ONLY way we will know we are living truly, living in God’s reality. It is also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves. And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and FREE before God!

WOW!! What a promise of HOPE! We are called to believe in the Son of God (Jesus Christ) and we are called to love others. The ultimate LOVE was displayed FOR YOU when Jesus Christ laid down His life. There is hope, redemption and GRACE in abundance for YOU! There is surety of self and clarity of mind.

You do not have to search anymore (not for another second!) for love from the world or from people. These will surely always fail. A perfect love is available to you, RIGHT NOW. He only requires you accept and acknowledge Him and the price He paid for you.

Your journey through life will never ever be the same after you accept this reality. God’s reality. You will love others differently. You will love yourself differently and you will have an over abundance of everything you will ever need. Ever.

If you are ready to take the next steps and need help and guidance accepting Christ into your heart it is very simple. Just pray the prayer below. After this, be ready to go through various changes in your life. Jesus will NEVER leave you for a second. I promise that He will be there to walk out this journey with you and get you back to the “whole” person He created you to be.
